An Iranian study tested the ability of ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) to enhance the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It determined that the root extract of the Ayurvedic herb could improve the symptoms of the psychiatric problem.
Mashhad University of Medical Sciences supported the study. Its findings were published in the science journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine.
The study recommended further exploration of the beneficial effects of ashwagandha on OCD treatment, such as the extract’s phytochemical content and the effect’s possible dependency on dosage.
