Gabiroba (Campomanesia adamantium) is a native Brazilian fruit commonly used for treating stomach disorders. It was revealed in a study published in The Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy that the different bioactive compounds present in gabiroba extracts are responsible for its pharmacological activities.
Based on the results of the study, the bioactive compounds found in the chemical fractions include stictane-3,22-diol, valoneic acid, and gallic acid, while the volatile oils contained verbenene, beta-funebrene, limonene, sabinene, alpha-thujene, and methyl salicylate. The presence of these compounds was attributed for the antifungal and antibacterial activities that the researchers observed.
