Researchers have discovered that Fagonia olivieri can be used to treat acetaminophen-induced liver damage, possibly because of its antioxidant potential. This study, which was published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, used in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the antioxidant content of the crude methanol extract of the whole plant of F. olivieri.
Based on the results of the study, the researchers were able to conclude that F. olivieri contains large amounts of phenolic and flavonoid compounds, which have been associated to antioxidant activity. This provides the scientific rationale behind the use of Fagonia olivieri as traditional medicine.
