A study published in the Journal of Dietary Supplements has found that Shirazi thyme (Zataria multiflora) can be used to manage the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In the article, Dr. Mohaddese Mahboubi of the Medical Plants Research Center of Barij in Iran reviewed the traditional uses of the herb and compared it with available scientific literature.
The results indicated that Shirazi thyme essential oil can be used to manage symptoms of IBS.
