The Malabar nut (Adhatoda vasica) can improve cases of rheumatoid arthritis, according to scientists from the University of Calcutta in India. In their research, which was published in the Journal of Nutrition & Intermediary Metabolism, the team looked at the ability of the methanolic extract from the leaves of the Malabar nut to protect against the effects of arthritis using collagen-induced murine models.
The researchers concluded that A. vasica can regulate oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory mediators, which could explain its ability to protect against the effects of rheumatoid arthritis.
